Job Summary:

The Tulsa City-County Library seeks a talented and energetic professional Web Developer with UX expertise in the Web Technologies and Development unit of the Information Technology Department. Reporting to the Integrated Library Systems Manager, this position will be responsible for supporting and extending the Library’s web presence. The position will also engage in project work, and support new technology initiatives derived from our strategic plan.  The successful candidate will maintain a knowledge of current best practices in all areas of responsibility with special attention to security. S/he will identify promising new technologies that can positively impact services or generate a better user experience and will be an innovative and entrepreneurial professional who desires to work in a creative, collaborative and respectful environment. 

Essential Functions:

1. Defines applications and websites objectives by analyzing user requirements; envisioning system features and functionality.
2. Works on design implementation to create user interfaces that reflect both the user experience and the design team’s intent.
3. Front-end Implementation (responsive web design, modular/scalable CSS, UI frameworks, living style guides, progressive enhancement & accessibility, animation and front-end performance).
4. Application Development (JavaScript frameworks, JavaScript preprocessors, code quality, process automation, testing).
5. Front-end Operations (build tools, deployment, speed: (app, tests, builds, deploys), monitoring errors/logs, and stability).
6. Recommends system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages of custom development and purchase alternatives.
7. Completes website development by coordinating requirements, schedules, and activities; contributing to team meetings; troubleshooting development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms.
8. Supports users by developing documentation and assistance tools.
9. Updates job knowledge by researching new web development technologies and software products; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
10. Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required.

Work environment involves occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions. The job may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals.

Education & Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in related field of study;
  2. Three to five years’ experience in website and applications development required
  3. Solid experience in HTML/XHTML/CSS.
  4. Expert level in the use of JQuery and Javascript.
  5. Experience developing content structure and site building in a CMS, preferably Drupal 8.
  6. Solid knowledge of Twig.
  7. Experience with SASS.
  8. Strong understanding of usability, accessibility and browser compatibility. 
  9. Basic knowledge of Photoshop or other graphic editing software, with a creative flair for design.
  10. Strong troubleshooting skills. 
  11. Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
  12. Highly aware of current trends and best practices in web design/technologies
  13. Ability to set and follow through on both individual and team priorities and goals; must be able to seamlessly switch between multiple projects.
  14. Aptitude for learning new technologies and working in a dynamic environment.
  15. Demonstrated comfort with an evolving technology landscape and in suggesting innovative ideas that improve digital content services.
  16. Ability to problem solve creatively. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  17. Excellent written and verbal communication.
  18. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  19. Preferred knowledge includes:

  • Dupral coding standards and custom module development
