FT/PT Status:Full Time

The Mechanical Journeyman operates and maintains mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment for Central and branch libraries; performs general labor as well as landscaping, irrigation, janitorial services and cosmetic maintenance as requested; performs routine maintenance/repairs on vehicle fleet. 

Essential Functions:
  1. Operates, maintains, inspects and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, including boilers and chillers;
  2. Assures compliance with City, State and Federal regulations/codes and promotes safe operations of physical plant;
  3. Operates, designs, installs and maintains building plumbing systems, including sprinkler systems, pumps, and fountains;
  4. Operates, designs, installs and maintains building electrical systems including lighting systems, fixtures, and emergency lighting systems;;
  5. Maintains building security systems;
  6. Operates and maintains building life safety programs, to include building fire prevention systems;
  7. Assist IT department as needed to install data wiring and computer equipment;
  8. Maintains and repairs library vehicles and bookmobile generator;
  9. Performs routine maintenance duties such as painting, cleaning, and repairing furnishings and equipment;
  10. Purchases approved materials, equipment and supplies;
  11. Performs landscaping and janitorial services as needed;
  12. Compliance with the Process Activated Training System (PATS) scripts when performing job tasks and making additional contributions to the PATS scripts as necessary to continually ensure all tasks are being performed consistently and with the best practices;
  13. Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  1. Ability to read schematics and blueprints;
  2. Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems and ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair same;
  3. Skill in use of electric hand tools, pneumatic tools, and welding equipment;
  4. Communication skills in person and by telephone;
  5. Ability to pass a pre-employment (post-offer) physical and continuing physical examinations at regular intervals.
  6. Ability to pass a pre-employment (post-offer) drug screen and continuing random drug screenings post-hire.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work involves considerable physical exertion, such as regularly lifting of heavy items (up to 80 pounds) such as carts or crates full of boxes, on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions.

Work environment involves routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The job may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.

Education & Experience:
  1. High school diploma or GED required;
  2. Specialized training in HVAC, Chillers, and Boiler pressure systems preferred;
  3. Three or more years directly related experience required, including three or more years experience in (100 + ton) boilers, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems preferred;
  4. Valid Oklahoma driver's license and good driving record required;
  5. Journeyman Mechanical license and EPA refrigerant handling certification required;
  6. City of Tulsa Limited First Class Engineer’s operating license required (may be obtained upon hire);
  7. Or equivalent combination of technical training, education, and/or experience.
